Connecting longitudinal real-world data (RWD) with clinical trial data can be a powerful method of contextualizing and enriching clinical trial results. Real-world evidence (RWE) gained from such data provides a deeper understanding of the patient’s diagnostic and treatment journey beyond the limited context of temporally bounded, site-based research, amplifying the power and precision of clinical studies. However, much RWD is unstructured and exists in fragmented data formats and sources, making it difficult to gather data and ensure that it is appropriate to the needs of a clinical study.
This case study explores how UBC partnered with the sponsor of a complex clinical trial to collect a rich, longitudinal real-world patient healthcare dataset spanning three years pre- and post-trial, using a robust data interoperability and evidence generation strategy.
