Annette Stemhagen, DrPH, FISPE, Vice President, Safety, Epidemiology, Registries & Risk Management, goes the extra mile for clients, working to improve drug safety and patient access to therapies.
She has more than 30 years of public health epidemiological research experience, including 20 years in safety surveillance of pharmaceutical, biotech, and vaccine products. Yet, she’s never been one to isolate herself in the “ivory tower” of advanced scientific design. Instead, Annette is happy to roll up her sleeves and work side by side with her team to ensure all expectations of a project are met.
For these and many reasons, Annette has been recognized by PharmaVOICE magazine as one of the 100 most inspiring people in the life sciences industry.
Annette began her career working as the Director of Cancer Epidemiology Services for the New Jersey State Department of Health. She led a team focused on epidemiologic studies of cancer risk, a cancer control program, and the statewide cancer registry.
Today, Annette leads a team of experts in the fields of epidemiology, product safety, and risk management who provide manufacturers with best-in-class services including the design and administration of risk evaluation and mitigation (REMS) strategies, pharmacovigilance, and registry design and management. Annette’s designs for risk management strategies for products that, without safeguards would not be marketed, have allowed patients to access many drug and biologic products.
Grateful for role models and mentors who have influenced her life, Annette is generous with her knowledge, taking the time to teach and empower others. She works to build confidence in others, helping them realize the full extent of their skills and expertise.
An important factor that makes Annette stand out from others is her love for her profession. She works extremely hard because she loves to innovate and problem solve. We’re proud to have her on the UBC team. Congratulations, Annette!
